Authentication by biometric devices is a trend nowadays. Since it’s a new and convenient technology, customers worldwide are still discovering its simple and secured features which are being deployed everywhere.

  • It’s already in our routine

How do you unlock your smartphone? How many times per day?  Pin codes have been replaced by biometric authentication, in which fingerprint and facial scan are taking the lead. The offered convenience impacts directly  the way we interact with devices. For instance a person unlocks her/his smartphone 52 times per day on average, a teenager or millennial, 152 times a day. Beyond the practical side, the action itself is secured and allows the adoption of biometrics in other fields as people are getting more and more used. Facial, fingerprint, voice or iris are the main forms of biometrics in a daily basis deployment.

78% of global consumers have tried some form of biometric authentication.

If it’s impressive that 78% of global consumers have already tried some sort of biometric authentication, most of these users, 74%,  see the technology as a positive game changing which facilitates everyday lives.

63% of them have tried fingerprints

25% of them have tried facial biometrics

20% have used iris recognition

  • Convenience is better: no more PIN

The fear of identity theft was number 1 answer of global customers, 37% said that it would turn them off from using biometric technology. But the technology convenience would step ahead this feeling of fear. Instead of using a PIN for credit card, customers said it’s safer and more comfortable to store biometric data directly on their cards.

You will never forget your fingerprint.

Three major interests of consumers are checked by biometric technology: Security, convenience and privacy.

61% of global consumers have an average of more than 10 transactions a month using payment cards at physical stores/ merchants. We can consider that most part of them surpass 30 transactions. For these consumers, forgetting their card PIN is similar to a nightmare. In the last 18 months, 54% of global consumers have forgotten  their PIN code, to avoid this headache, 82% said they would replace normal PIN by biometric authentication while using credit cards.

One of the big advantages of biometric authentication is the unlimited ceiling for contactless payments, beyond the security and convenience it can offer. 72% of customers would accept a biometric card offering the three major concerns.

IDEMIA is on top of this technology and has been developing the FCODE card, which has an integrated fingerprint sensor. This fingerprint sensor allows a rapid verification of the biometric data stored in the card and the fingerprint presented when a contactless transaction happens. IDEMIA doesn’t store the biometric data or any information, it’s all stored in the credit card. Each consumer can handle his data with simple and easy enrolment solution.

82% of consumers worldwide are prepared to use fingerprint scan instead of classic pin

Other areas are already applying  biometric technology in order to simplify everyday tasks.

  • More than just payment cards

The biometric technology deployment continues in a global scale and consumers start realizing how beneficial it is to use. For example, 43% of global consumers would use a biometric card for a building access and 32% want the technology integrated to transportation pass.

43% of global consumers would like to use a biometric card to gain access to a secured building.

The future of these cards looks very promising, indeed – and we’re proud to be a part of it.

IDEMIA, well-known as the leader in Augmented Identity, has incremented its top-of-the-line solution MorphoWave™ Compact with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The already awarded device, as the most trusted frictionless technology, had its distinguished performance and user experience improved again.

The frictionless biometric solution – MorphoWave™ has been already in the market for a while now. Launched by IDEMIA, the device offers a highly secured system for access control. It has quickly turned to be the reference in many major organizations when the clear-cut relation between biometric identification, high throughput and convenience was made by customers. The second version, MorphoWave™ Compact was introduced in 2018 strengthening its leading position. The strategy behind this innovative product is to enable frictionless access everywhere.

The world leader IDEMIA has an incomparable expertise, with 40 years in the biometric field. As a result of its experience more the ongoing investment in R&D, IDEMIA came out with the combination of AI and fingerprint identification. Its sets forth a cutting-edge solution, MorphoWave™ Compact, powered by Artificial Intelligence.

Considering the device’s performance, IDEMIA could raise the matching speed in 85%, which reflects to a 25% more efficient system. The MorphoWave™ Compact powered by AI allows a flow of over 50 people per minute per device. The better performance is due to the algorithms which also optimized the capacity of identification (up to 100,000 users for one-to-many).

To outline, the best just got even better …

The improvement on the frictionless technology can be updated by all MorphoWave™ Compact customers. This emphasizes IDEMIA’s position not just as market leader, but as a long-term partner.

On September 12th in Chicago during the Global Security Exchange – GSX, the launching of MorphoWave™ Compact powered by AI will happen. The attendants of this fair-trade will interact with this powered frictionless device by the simple wave of the hand, confirming the ultimate convenient technology available.

“Technology is evolving at an incredible rate and it is constantly challenging and redefining customer practices. At IDEMIA, innovation and pushing the boundaries is part of our DNA. This latest innovation is another step towards the future of biometric identification and allows us to remain a leader in Augmented Identity.”
Yves Portalier, Executive Vice President of the Connected Objects business unit at IDEMIA

In order to reinforce the security in public and private areas, IDEMIA, the world leader in augmented identity launched its new generation application for video analysis.

Thanks to Augmented Vision, security workers will be allowed to identify suspected people in real time and accelerate the investigation as soon as the event occurs. This new cutting-edge technology helps to strengthen security in high circulation places such as airports, train stations, stadiums, sports arenas, stores and shopping malls. It can also be placed at show sites and entertainment areas for accurate surveillance.

Augmented Vision has numerous assets:

  • Fast and accurate functioning in real-time;
  • Several algorithms for video analytics all-in-one: face, outline, vehicles, number plates, objects;
  • Real-Time face recognition technology highly accurate and tested by NIST (FIVE 2017);

It can also be settled in CCTV solutions or access control systems:

  • Video Analytics : While a suspected person is detected in the video, the AV solution will trigger a warning for the surveillance team. Augmented Vision is blended in normal monitoring systems, with classic cameras situated in public or private areas, thus IDEMIA contributes to upraise security systems.
  • Access Control: the security system can automatically refuse access when a suspect tries to get into a non-authorized zone. And It can also identify a group of people by distinguishing and authorizing some VIPs or employees to secured zones.

This application leans on IDEMIA’s expertise, in particular on its  face recognition technology which allows great efficiency and accuracy for image and video analysis.

«Augmented Vision leverages all of IDEMIA’s latest technologies to offer a complete and accurate solution based on our leadership in biometric capture and analysis as well as real-time video data analysis. With this new analytics application, we enhance security, increase throughput while improving user experience. »
Philippe Barreau, IDEMIA Executive Vice President of the Public Security & Identity Business Unit

«With Augmented Vision, we give our Partners the capability to capitalize upon existing video surveillance infrastructures with biometric access control. It paves the way for our next facial recognition-based innovations for access control and time & attendance applications. »
